Symptomatic Students/Staff

If a student or staff becomes ill at school they should come to the health office. The school nurse will evaluate the symptoms listed above and determine if the student must go home. Students must be picked up at school by parents/guardian or emergency contacts as soon as possible. If a student has been sent home due to illness we request that you contact your student’s healthcare provider. 

My student has been ill. When can they return to school?

There are different protocols depending on recommendations from your student’s healthcare provider, who will determine whether a COVID-19 test should be performed. Additionally, any question about returning to school should be directed to School Nurse Laura Perras. Siblings of the positive student do not need to quarantine. 

If a student presents with symptoms during the school day and we determine the student needs to be sent home, siblings of the ill student do not need to be sent home. If a positive COVID test result is confirmed in the ill student, we ask you to follow the CDC guidelines for isolation.  Isolation Guidelines from the CDC can be found here:, updated August 11, 2022. 

The CDC recommends that persons exposed to COVID-19 wear a well fitting mask for 10 days and test for COVID-19 after day 5. If the person continues to test positive for COVID-19, the person should continue to wear a mask for a full 10 days.
