Morning Arrival at School

At-Home Daily Health Check

The daily at home check for students and staff will include: temperature of 100.4 or higher, cough, congestion/runny nose, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills or repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.  If any of these symptoms are present, the student or staff member should stay home. The Primary Healthcare Provider should be contacted for further guidance.

Students and staff  should stay home until fever free for 24 hours with no fever reducing medication.

If students or staff members begin exhibiting symptoms at school, they should see the school nurse.  The nurse will determine next steps.

Please call and report absences to the front office, per usual.

Note: Students with a confirmed diagnosis and a medical treatment plan for well controlled asthma or environmental allergies, who do not have a temperature, may attend school with some expected mild coughing and clear nasal discharge. Please contact our School Nurse, Laura Perras, to discuss and document pre-existing conditions. Documentation from your student’s doctor should accompany this school documentation.

Arrival on School Grounds

Students may arrive by car between 7:30 and 7:55 for morning “pre-cess.” Children who walk or are driven to school may arrive at 7:30 a.m. at the earliest when outdoor supervision begins for “before school recess.” For students who arrive by bus, supervision begins when their bus arrives.

Please be sure your student is dressed appropriately for the weather each morning, as they will not be entering the school until 7:55am (unless there is inclement weather or temperatures below zero degrees). We will be outside even with light drizzle/rain!

Students gather their belongings and line up at 7:55 a.m. to enter the school. Instruction begins at 8:00 a.m.  Students who arrive after 8:00 a.m. are considered to be late unless tardiness is caused by a late school bus.  Late students must report to the office to check in before continuing to their classrooms.

Hours of instruction for grades K-5 hours are 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (1:55 p.m. dismissal on Wednesdays).  The school office is open from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on school days.

Car Arrivals

Car arrivals will begin at 7:30. We often experience traffic congestion between 7:50-7:55, which can cause frustration and tardiness. Drop your student off earlier in the 7:30-7:55 window whenever possible to allow for some social time and fresh air before the school day begins, and to avoid traffic and frustration.

For vehicles arriving between 7:30-7:45, we will not be able to offer vehicle door assistance. Adults/drivers should stay in the vehicle and students can exit the car independently from the passenger side onto the curb.

School staff will be present in the loop from 7:45-7:55 to help open doors and move cars along during the higher traffic/congestion time.

Drivers dropping off students should proceed to the normal parent drop off loop. Students must be able to exit the car on the right hand side (curbside) of the vehicle. Adjust car seats and seating in the car appropriately. For safety reasons, students should NOT exit to the inside of the traffic loop- only to the curb side.

Those adults/drivers needing to get out of the car with their student will need to park in the parking lot. Please do not get out of the car if you are using the drop-off loop.

Walkers/Bikers

Walkers and bikers may arrive between 7:30am and 7:55am, like those arriving in cars. Students on bikes will place their bikes in the bike racks in the school yard and enjoy their before school recess time. Walkers will arrive at the playground and enjoy their before school recess time.

Bus Riders

Based on current guidance, we will following these protocols:

  • Like at school, masks are welcome but not required.
  • There may be 2 students in each seat.
  • Younger students will be asked to sit in the front section of the bus, closest to the driver.
  • The administration and bus drivers reserve the right to assign seats to support student needs if applicable.

Upon arrival at school, bus riders will proceed to their before-school recess time designated place.

Buses will continue to use the bus loop for their drop off and pick ups.

Entrances

  • Kindergarten and 1st grade students will enter through the Main Entrance beginning at 7:55.
  • 2nd and 3rd grade students will enter through the 3rd grade pod door beginning at 7:55.
  • 4th and 5th grade students will enter through the 4th grade pod door beginning at 7:55.

In the first weeks of school, there will be plenty of staff available at various entries to help students find their way to their classrooms.

Late arrivals

Students arriving at 8:00am or after should come through the main entrance to check in.
